Embedded product calculators for the UK’s best-known cement brand

Project image

Tarmac Blue Circle is one of the UK’s most recognised cement brands, stocked by major retailers and used by both DIY customers and trade professionals. They needed a consistent way to help customers choose the right quantity of product for common jobs across their range.

The brief

Create a set of simple, accurate calculators for each cement product offering, allowing customers to estimate how much Blue Circle product they needed for their specific use case. The tools also needed to be deployable across multiple retailer environments, including embedded directly within product pages.

Blue Circle High Strength Concrete Calculator

Our approach

We designed the calculators as a modular suite of React components, built to be reusable across product variants while keeping the UI consistent and easy to understand. The focus was on clear inputs, practical outputs, and a build that could be distributed and updated without heavyweight retailer integration work.

Design & Development

  • Calculator suite built with React.js mapped to Blue Circle’s product range
  • Single-script embed delivery so retailers could drop the calculator into a page with minimal effort
  • Retailer-friendly implementation designed for environments like B&Q product pages
  • Maintainable architecture to support updates, improvements, and additional calculator variants over time

Launch & delivery

We delivered each calculator as an embeddable package, with straightforward integration guidance for retailer teams and internal stakeholders. This enabled fast rollout across multiple sites without rebuilding functionality per retailer.

Impact

Blue Circle gained a scalable set of product calculators that improve the buying experience at the point of decision, reduce uncertainty around quantities, and create a consistent product-support tool that can be deployed across retailer channels.
